Why do you need student housing insurance?

student housing insurance

You are a student or recent graduate about to move into a new home in France?

Home insurance is mandatory if you are renting a CROUS room, university accommodation, a studio, an apartment, or a house, furnished or not. You will need to provide proof of this insurance when signing the lease and receiving the keys.

Your landlord has the right to request an insurance certificate from you every year. Therefore, your contract must be renewed by August 31st at the latest. Failure to renew may result in the termination of your lease.

To cover your responsibilities towards the landlord, you must take out student home insurance covering rental risks such as fire, explosion, and water damage. However, this insurance does not cover damage to neighbors or third parties (except for fire and water damage), damage to your personal property, or your civil liability for "private life."

We therefore recommend adding civil liability coverage, theft, vandalism, glass breakage, and office equipment extension to your policy. These options are available directly within the insurance packages or as add-ons when you subscribe online.

    • Direct Move (No overlapping dates): You do not need to purchase a new policy. Simply log in to your online customer area, click on “Other Actions”, and update your address. Your coverage will automatically transfer to your new home, and you can instantly download your updated certificate of insurance for your new landlord.
    • Overlapping Leases (Keeping both apartments temporarily): Important: Once you update your address on your current policy, your previous apartment will no longer be covered in the event of a claim. If you are renting both places at the same time, you must purchase a new, separate contract for your new accommodation to ensure both are fully protected.
