Can I subscribe with a foreign passport and without a French guarantor?

Absolutely. As an international student or young professional, you can subscribe using your foreign passport or ID. You do not need a French guarantor to get housing insurance with ADH. To be eligible, you simply need to reside in metropolitan France and provide valid proof of your student or recent graduate status (such as a school certificate).

I live in a shared flat: how do I insure myself and my roommates?

The process depends on your rental agreement. If you have an individual lease, you only need to insure your specific room and the common living areas. If you share a joint lease, you must insure the entire apartment and declare all your roommates on the same policy. With ADH, you can easily add up to 5 students or young professionals roommates. Important: For a joint lease, absolutely all roommates must be students or recent graduates to be eligible.

What is comprehensive renters insurance (MRH) in France?

Comprehensive renters insurance, known as Multirisque Habitation (MRH) in France, is a mandatory policy that protects your home and personal belongings. It systematically covers risks such as:
    • Fire and explosions
    • Water damage
    • Climatic events and natural disasters
    • Legal protection
You can also add optional guarantees like civil liability, theft, or computer equipment protection based on your specific needs.

We are a couple and one of us is not a student/recent graduate, can we subscribe?

Our contract is strictly reserved for students and recent graduates. Here are the conditions for couples:

    • If both members of the couple are students or recent graduates, you can subscribe to the contract together. During subscription, you must declare the second member of the couple as a roommate.
    • If one of the two does not have this status, the couple is not eligible for insurance.

I have children, are they covered?

No. Our contract only covers students/recent graduates; even under civil liability, children are not covered.

Is renters insurance mandatory in France?

Yes, renters insurance is legally mandatory in France for all tenants. You must provide a valid certificate of insurance to your landlord before getting your keys. This applies to all types of accommodation, including private apartments, CROUS university rooms, and shared flats. Without it, your landlord can refuse to rent you the place or cancel your lease.

Is home insurance for a furnished accommodation mandatory?

Yes, home insurance is mandatory for furnished accommodation. Adding civil liability coverage is strongly recommended to protect you for damages caused to others.

We remind you that the Alur law of March 24, 2014 now requires any non-occupying co-owner to insure the same accommodation to protect it in case of hazards and also guarantee its contents.

In the absence of a home insurance contract, the consequences may be as follows:

    • Refusal by your landlord or property owner to rent you the accommodation
    • Termination of your lease
    • Your landlord/property owner may take out insurance on your behalf and add the contract amount to your rent

As a reminder, this insurance certificate must be provided:

    • Before moving into the accommodation
    • At each lease renewal
    • Every year

    What is multi-risk home insurance?

International Student Health Insurance

Is the international student health insurance offered by ADH recognized by French universities and schools?

Yes, our international student health insurance is recognized by all French universities and higher education schools. Upon online subscription, you instantly receive your official certificate by email. This mandatory document proves you have comprehensive medical coverage and civil liability, allowing you to seamlessly validate your university enrollment and start your studies in France.

Does the insurance certificate meet the prefecture's requirements for obtaining a French student visa?

Absolutely. The ADH insurance certificate is 100% compliant with the strict requirements of French prefectures and consulates. This essential document is valid for both your initial student visa application and your residency permit renewal. It proves you have full medical coverage and repatriation assistance, ensuring a smooth immigration process.

Is the ADH health insurance a comprehensive plan, or do I legally need additional coverage?

Our international student health insurance is a comprehensive, all-in-one plan. You legally do not need any additional coverage for your stay. To simplify your move to France, our policy centralizes the three mandatory guarantees:
    • Medical and hospitalization coverage.
    • Civil Liability (required by your university).
    • Medical repatriation assistance (required for your student visa).

Am I covered immediately, or is there a waiting period before I can see a doctor?

In the event of an accident or accident-related medical emergency, you are covered immediately with no waiting period. For standard illnesses (like doctor consultations and treatments), a short 8-day waiting period applies after subscription. Once this brief period passes, you are fully protected for all your healthcare needs in France.

Does the insurance cover hospitalization, dental care, and specialist visits?

Yes, our health coverage for international students is highly comprehensive:
    • Hospitalization: Covered at 100% of actual costs in contracted facilities.
    • Doctors and specialists: Reimbursed at 100% of actual costs (up to €80 or €100 per visit).
    • Dental care: Covers dental emergencies and accident-related dental treatments.

Does this plan work as a top-up health insurance (mutuelle) alongside the French Social Security (CPAM)?

Yes, it does. When you arrive in France, registering for French Social Security (CPAM) can take months. Our insurance covers you from the very first euro while you wait. Once your CPAM affiliation is active, our policy automatically adapts to function as a top-up insurance (mutuelle), covering the remaining out-of-pocket medical costs.

Do you offer direct billing (tiers payant), or how do I get reimbursed if I pay upfront?

For routine doctor visits, you must pay upfront. Reimbursement is fast and easy: simply upload your medical invoices under €500 to our online platform, or mail them if the amount is higher. For hospitalizations, no upfront payment is required -we set up direct billing with the hospital through a simple phone call.

What are the coverage rates and reimbursement times for standard medical care?

We reimburse standard medical care (prescriptions, lab tests, X-rays) at 100% of actual costs. Doctor consultations are also covered at 100% (up to €80 or €100). Thanks to our 100% digital platform for claims under €500, processing is accelerated, ensuring you receive a rapid bank transfer for your reimbursements.

Can I extend or adjust my contract dates if my study abroad period changes?

Yes, our insurance easily adapts to the length of your stay in France (from 1 to 12 months). If you extend your studies, you can quickly renew your policy online through your personal account. There are no additional administrative fees, guaranteeing continuous medical protection between two academic years.

Is customer support available in English for questions or medical emergencies?

Absolutely. Our France-based team manages your administrative requests and reimbursements in both English and French. For any medical emergency (hospitalization, repatriation), our assistance center is available 24/7. Our medical operators speak major international languages, ensuring you get the help you need without any language barriers.

What assistance guarantees are included in the international student health insurance policy?

    • Direct billing coordination in case of hospitalization.
    • An early return ticket in the event of a severe family emergency.
    • Legal assistance coupled with your Civil Liability coverage.

Can I use this insurance before my French Social Security (CPAM) is officially activated?

Yes, this is a major benefit of ADH. Obtaining your French Social Security (CPAM) number often takes several months. During this waiting period, our insurance works independently. You are reimbursed from the very first euro spent on medical care, without having to wait for your official enrollment in the French healthcare system.

Do I need a French bank account to receive my medical reimbursements?

No, a French bank account is not strictly mandatory to subscribe or receive your ADH reimbursements; an international account (ideally with a SEPA IBAN) is sufficient. However, opening a French bank account upon arrival is highly recommended, as it will greatly simplify your daily life and your official CPAM registration.

Does the health insurance include medical repatriation to my home country?

Yes, medical repatriation is fully included in our coverage. In a severe medical emergency, if doctors determine you need to return to your home country, our 24/7 assistance team will organize and fully cover your medical repatriation. This is a crucial guarantee required to validate your student visa.

How do I register for the French healthcare system (Sécurité sociale) as an international student?

To register, visit the official website: etudiant-etranger.ameli.fr. You will need to provide documents like your passport, student visa, and school certificate. Since this process takes time, ADH health insurance covers you from your first day in France. Once you get your CPAM number, our plan automatically becomes your top-up insurance.
